Steven Lavaggi
Biography For over 35 years Steven Lavaggi has been a professional artist. He has a BFA (Painting Major) from UT (University of Tennessee). In 1984 he was called the “Artist of Hope” during a nationally televised interview. Since then he has become internationally known for his imaginative, original paintings, grand scale murals, sculptures and jewelry line which has been featured on the QVC Television Network for the past 9 years in the U.S. and U.K.
The Angel of Reconciliation is one example of paintings and sculptures that represents a contemporary inspirational symbol of hope and reassurance for the times we live in. Lavaggi’s range of imagery is as diverse as the mind can conceive, from his ethereal ‘Glimpse of Glory’ cloudscapes to his whimsical ‘Once On A Blue Balloon’ image, there are plenty of surprises in store at any showing of the Lavaggi collection. He certainly will never be thought of as a one note pony!
Steven was a personal guest of the late Salvador Dali at his home in Cadaques, Spain in 1979. Dali was one of the creative influences for Lavaggi along with Caravaggio, Di Chirico, William Blake, Dore, Magritte, Maxfield Parrish, Monet and MC Escher. This wide rang of influences and the fact that for years Lavaggi created many commissioned Trompe l’ oiele murals in the mansions of Beverly Hills, Bel Air and Malibu California enabled him to stretch stylistically to accomplish each specific design goal. This diversified range flowed into the breath of his personal paintings.
A famous Heavy Metal Rock Star who was once asked why he bought one of Lavaggi’s tranquil paintings, answered; “Even rock stars need peace too!”. Lavaggi creates art that evokes a sense of the inspired view of life, with a hope to elevate the viewers. This art encourages us to see our lives in such a way as to live a legacy worth leaving behind.
Steven and his family moved to Austin from Los Angeles in June 2009, and intends to live here with his wife Audrey for the rest of their lives. Steven and Audrey are committed to the vision of Arthouse to encourage up and coming Texas artists, and have committed a portion of every sale of art in Austin to this worthwhile cause.
